Artists For Recognition And Acceptance
Girl Art LBT Art Exhibition in Nairobi - History in the Making
The Girl Art Project is a one of a kind exhibition in Nairobi running
from October 18 to November 8, 2011 at the Godown Arts Centre.
It is a joint project between two groups MWA, Minority Women in Action
which advocates for LBTI women’s rights and AFRA-Kenya (Artists for
Recognition and Acceptance – an organization of Lesbian Bisexual and
Trans Women) carrying out advocacy activities through the arts
through the support of UHAI-EASHRI, the East African
Sexual Health and Rights Initiative.
The theme of the exhibition is inspired by the female form, presence
and experience.
The exhibition is set to feature the work of three female artists,
Kawira Mwichira, Remmy Ireri and Shillah Mombo who is also known as
Subira. The exhibition seeks to create a creative outlet and provide
both participants and art patrons an opportunity to contribute to a
worthy social cause.
All the work being shown will be available for sale and all of the
proceeds from art sales or donations will be given to a charity called
‘Children of Africa Hope Mission School.’ The mission school provides
education for orphans and vulnerable children.
Online updates regarding the exhibition, the artists and the proceeds
beneficiary are available on Facebook page Girl Art Project (The GAP)
or on twitter @GirlArtProject.
